The Question is:
Dear Wizard,
Is it possible to make Decnet Phase IV redundant ? With 2 NIC's i.e. NIC
failover, same like IP services in OVMS 7.3-2.
best regards
The Answer is :
Yes. You will require a DECnet routing license and will have to
(re)configure the host as a DECnet router. (DECnet has had full
multi-path routing capabilities for many years.)
Within DECnet Phase IV, you cannot connect two network controllers
to the same LAN segment, this to avoid network address collisions.
You can connect multiple controllers to separate LAN segments, and
you can connect those segments with DECnet routers.
DECnet-Plus uses the NIC hardware address and not an address synthesized
from the DECnet Phase IV address; you can have multiple controllers
connected to the same LAN segment when using DECnet-Plus. (The use of
the Phase IV address is the central limit preventing multiple controllers
on the same network segment under DECnet Phase IV.)
