would an alpha ds20e running openvms 7.3 support a dvd writer.

The Answer is :

 
  You will require software compatible with the particular DVD writer
  chosen, and particularly software compatible with the DVD+R/RW or
  DVD-R/RW choice.  No such DVD-writing software is presently included
  within OpenVMS itself, though there are both commercial and Freeware
  packages that might be of interest to you.  The OpenVMS FAQ has CD-
