Can OpenVMS Read Old BACKUP Tapes?

The Question is:

 
I have a backup tape (save set) created in 1991 - 1993 on a VAX / VMS version
 5.3 operating system. Is it possible to read it and transfer it to todays
 operating system, either PC or something else ?
The files are fortran files, data (txt) files, Latex files.
I would very very much appreciate and indeed need your help.

The Answer is :

 
  OpenVMS can and will reads these old BACKUP tapes just fine, assuming
  the tape media involved has not degraded beyond readability.
