The Question is:
We have attempted to install a KZQSA SCSI board into our VAX 400-500 system
running VMS 5.5-2H4. Due to a custom interface board currently installed, we
are running into CSR conflicts and I am seeking answers to the following
questions.
I am looking for the jumper settings and resulting CSR values for the W1 thru
W7 jumpers on a KZQSA SCSI controller board.
Can multiple jumpers be installed or is movement of a single jumper the
limiting factor?
Where could I purchase or download the KZQSA installation Guide (Part#
EK-KZQSA-IG)? We have had no luck in locating a copy.
Thank you, T.J.
The Answer is :
Please contact your hardware services organization, or the Assisted
Services program referenced in the OpenVMS FAQ; please see topic
(1202) and (2648), among others, in addition to the Assisted Services
program information in the FAQ.
For information on the Q-bus, please see topics here including (1149),
(1866) and (3232). You will want to configure the ENTIRE Q-bus, as
the ENTIRE Q-bus -- all Q-bus devices present, all devices to be
removed, and all devices to be added -- must be considered when
performing a Q-bus bus reconfiguration. (Q-bus devices cannot be
and are not configured in isolation. Configuration changes for the
CSR and/or the interrupt vector can and often do involve more than
one Q-bus module.)
The OpenVMS Wizard would supplement this VAX 4000 series Q-bus system
with a newer SCSI-based system; with a VAX or an Alpha system with
a native SCSI connection.
The OpenVMS Wizard would not attempt to use a KZQSA for more than it
is (was) supported and tested with; with devices other than specific
tape drives and CD-ROM drives. The KZQSA is not intended as nor
suitable as a generic SCSI interface for Q-bus systems.
