Clearing Mount Verification?

The Question is:

 
I have an AlphaServer GS140 running OpenVMS 7.3-1.  A disk has gone into a
 MountVerify/Mounted state and any process that attempts to do anything to the
 device goes into an RWAST state.  How can I correct this short of a system
 reboot?
 
 

The Answer is :

 
  DISMOUNT the volume, with the appropriate qualifiers.
