The Question is:
I have a VAX 4000 60 system with a RZ24L-E harddrive that needs replacing. I
would like to put in a bigger hard drive around 1.2GB or larger. I can get a
RZ58E 1.38GB drive but I don't know for sure if it will work. Can you please
let me know if the RZ58E
would work in the 4000 60. Or recommend a replacement part number.
Regards.
The Answer is :
Please contact your hardware support organization for
assistance with hardware configurations and offerings.
For general details on device compatibility, please see
the OpenVMS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
For details on platform hardware support, please see the
QuickSpecs or (for systems as old as the VAXstation 4000
model 60 series workstation) see the Systems and Options
Catalog (SOC) archive. (Please see the FAQ for pointers.)
As has been stated before, the most expedient and simplest
approach is often to install additional storage into an
external enclosure, and particularly an enclosure with
sufficient power and cooling for the particular disk
device(s). You will have to ensure the SCSI bus is
(well) within SCSI length specifications, and the bus has
proper termination. The OpenVMS Wizard would generally not
recommend upgrading to a SCSI device as old as the RZ58 or
similarly aged RZ5x nor to the older of the RZ2x series.
