The Question is:

 
System : AXP/VMS V7.3
 
Hi:
I'm attempting to send an smtp email and I get an error when I use either the
 MAIL system or when I try directly from the DCL command line.
 
Error message:
%MAIL-E-ERRACTRNS, error activating transport SMTP
%LIB-E-ACTIMAGE, error activating image MULTINET:[SYSLIB]SMTP_MAILSHR.EXE;
-RMS-F-DEV, error in device name or inappropriate device type for operation
 
Originally I had recieved this error:
-RMS-E-FNF, file not found
 
and used the following commands :
 
$ DEFINE/SYSTEM/EXEC IN_MAILSHR MULTINET:SMTP_MAILSHR
$ DEFINE/SYSTEM/EXEC IN_MAILSHRP MULTINET:SMTP_MAILSHRP
 
Any help would be appreciated.
