The Question is:
We have TL891DLX with 2 CompaqDLT8000 drives. Is there any way to use the
Second Tape automatically when the first Tape becomes full using VMS Backup.
Do I have to unload the First Tape to the slot manually & load the second Tape
which is on any other slo
t. Any suggestions.
The Answer is :
The OpenVMS Wizard -- being the OpenVMS Wizard and not the StorageWorks
Wizard -- is not particularly familiar with StorageWorks devices and
storage--related products.
Please particularly acquire and read the available TL891 documentation,
and please see the following topics: (6265), (7652), (8295). Other
loader-related topics include (6088), (6226), (4593).
OpenVMS BACKUP can create sequential tape sets using various tape
devices, and BACKUP can also use two output devices -- alternately.
For details on BACKUP, please see the BACKUP documentation.
OpenVMS itself does not have library control capabilities, these are
provided by MRU, MDMS, MLU, or other loader-specific software or
hardware. Without the assistance of jukebox or loader-specific
software, OpenVMS can and will attempt to use the device sequentially
-- and sequential access may or may not be supported by a particular
library or loader.
