The Question is:
We need to change a DECServer 90TL from MOP to BOOTP for downline load as we
are moving it from our local lan to a remote building. We can successfully
ping the VAX from the remote building and ping workstations there from our VAX
so we know the connecti
on is present. Until now, it was using MOP to download the MENG1.SYS file
(successfully). To access the remote building we must go through two routers
that don't pass MOP. Therefore, we have configured TFTP & BOOTP under
UCX$CONFIG.COM and checked the
[UCX$BOOT]UCX$BOOTP_STARTUP.LOG file and it looks o.k. However, the 90TL won't
downline load from the remote building. What are we missing?
Thanks!
The Answer is :
Please contact the customer support center, as details of the IP network,
of the particular TCP/IP Servicees version and ECO level, and particularly
the IP routing configuration will be required.
Normally routers are not configured to pass BOOTP or DHCP packets by
default. This is something that you will need to review with your network
management. It may not be practical for them to allow BOOTP to be routed.
One obvious alternative would be a local server on the target LAN; a
server on the same LAN as the DECserver 90TL that can provide for MOP or
bootp download operations. Alternatively, consider the configuration and
use of a terminal server that does not require MOP or bootp downloads.
Also, please contact Digital Network Products Group for assistance with
the DECserver series hardware; Digital Network Products Group is the
organization that supports the DECserver series terminal servers.
