The Question is:
I have tcpip version 5.0a and am now getting problems with many print queues
stopping all at once. Is there a maximum number of print queues? or a
parameter setting that requires adjusting? Currently I have around 180 print
queues and appear not to be abl
e to get them all working.
The Answer is :
There is no particularly applicable maximum number of queues, this
would appear to be a software or a configuration problem, or a
resource restriction.
Most IP components can or do provide logging capabilities, and the
Telnet and lpr/lpd print symbionts are no exception to this. Please
enable the logging if required, and please then check the log files
for relevent error messages. There are sections on resolving lpd
and telnetsym problems included within the respective chapters of
the TCP/IP Services Management manual, part of the IP documentation.
ECO kits and subsequent product releases are available for TCP/IP
Services, and ECO kits and subsequent product releases are also
available for OpenVMS Alpha. Please seriously consider moving to
more current releases, and please also apply the mandatory ECO kits
for the particular product release in use. (The OpenVMS Wizard would
strongly encourage upgrading to current releases, even if the logging
capabilities specifically identify a particular configuration problem.)
If the problem persists, please contact the support center. Expect
to be asked for relevent contents of the log files, for details of
the queue configuration, details of the system configuration and
system parameters, and for the particular ECO kits that have been
applied to the configuration.
