C and Virtual Memory Management? (take II)

The Question is:

 
How do I accurately check the amount of memory being used by a C program?  Are
 there any calls that I can embed in the program?

The Answer is :

 
  Embedding $getjpi calls is likely the most common approach, but please
  read and understand topic (7876) before you embark on this effort.
