Setting the host node name?

» close window

The Question is:

How do I set the node name on an alpha. I have modified the modparams.dat file
and run autogen, but the system keep's coming back up with the old name.

The Answer is :

There is no one single nodename string used on OpenVMS.

Details on many of the various considerations and the various settings
involved when setting or when changing the nodename are listed in the
  OpenVMS FAQ.

MODPARAMS.DAT is used by AUTOGEN to set the string associated with the
SCSNODE system parameter; the string used by various system services
and by the cluster software. DECnet and IP both maintain their own
local definitions of the host's nodename(s), definitions that are
largely unrelated to the SCSNODE setting, for instance.
