Tape Library and Cleaning Cartrige?

The Question is:

 
So I have a TL891 library, and have written scripts to almost completely
 automate the backup process.  However, is there a way of querying the 891 from
 DCL to find out if it wants a cleaning cartridge?  Everything I find tells me
 that cleaning is a simple
 process, but it is always a Manual process!  Is there a way I can automate this?

  There is no particularly simply way to make this determination
