Maximum Size of Directory File?

» close window

The Question is:

Is there a limit to the amount of files that can be in any one directory other
 than the disk space?

The Answer is :

The maximum number of files permitted on an ODS-2 (or ODS-5) disk volume
and the available (and contiguous) disk capacity of the ODS-2 (or ODS-5)
disk volume are the two central limiting factors.

Please see the information on the limits on file specifications and
directories that is included in the OpenVMS FAQ for additional details.
