Controlling TCP/IP Services Portmapper?

» close window

The Question is:

How to limit the range of ports assigned by Portmapper in Digital TCP/IP
 Services for OpenVMS 4.2?

The Alpha Server has been placed behind a firewall. We must update the
firewall rules everytime the server is rebooted because Portmapper appears to
randomly assign port numbers. Is it possible to force portmapper to use
 specific, non-reserved ports? O
r perhaps, force Portmapper to assign ports within a non-reserved range?

The Answer is :

Portmapper does not have this behaviour, but clients such as telnet
can (and do) pick various ports.

Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center, as additional
details on the ports and tools involved will be required.
