Configuring and using COM2 port?

» close window

The Question is:

I cannot get the com2 port on my Alpha4100
box to work when I connect a terminal to it.
I cuurently have com1 (opa0) working for the console, so can you tell me what
 the settings
should be or what I should do on the Alpha?

The Answer is :

COM2 is normally known as TTA0:.

The usual speed is 9600 baud 8N1, with an environment variable is
available in recent SRM versions to set the baud rate of COM2.

The OpenVMS Wizard will assume that the system has not been booted
minimally, and particularly that device TTA0: is configured.

As an obvious test, consider swapping cables and terminals between
  COM1 and COM2 ports.

Details of the PC DIN connector and of COM1 are in the OpenVMS FAQ.
