The Question is:
My server ISHTAR run OpenVMS 7.1-2 with TCP/IP 5.0A.
I have configured a printer server with a NETQUEUE box (in passthru mode) and a
HP4M Plus printer under TCP/IP.
I define the printer queue with tcpip$lprsetup, TCPIP$PRINTCAP.DAT looks like:
IMP_IPBUR|imp_ipbur|IMP_IPBUR:\
:lf=/SYS$SPECIFIC/TCPIP$LPD/IMP_IPBUR.LOG:/ :lp=IMP_IPBUR:/
:rm=IMP_IPBUR:/
:rp=TEXT:/
:sd=/SYS$SPECIFIC/TCPIP$LPD/IMP_IPBUR:
The server queue is defined like :
Server queue IMP_IPBUR,idle,on ISHTAR::,mounted form default
/autostart_on=(ishtar::) /base_priority=4
/default=(feed,form=default) /noenable_generic
/library=HP4MDEVCTL /owner=[system]
/processor=tcpip$lpd_smb
/protection=(S:M,O:D,G:R,W:S)/schedule=(nosize)
Printing postscript file from ISHTAR works fine, but when a PC client print a
file with its own driver (HP 4/4M PLUS PS 600) there is just a blank page on
the printer. (printer is configured in Auto printing mode).

Georges
The Answer is :
The OpenVMS Wizard typically prefers to use DCPS for Postscript printing.
If you are printing from the PC to OpenVMS and then along to the printer,
the OpenVMS Wizard would encourage use of the Adobe-provided Postscript
driver for the PC, and would encourage contacty with the Compaq Customer
Support Center as additional details on the OpenVMS pass-through printing
configuration will be required.
If the Microsoft system is printing directly to the printer, then please
contact a Microsoft Wizard. Based solely on your statements, OpenVMS
can successfully print to the printer via IP, but the Microsoft system
cannot. This would thus tend to imply a problem with the Microsoft
software and/or with the HP printer and/or with the network between
the Microsoft system and the HP printer.
