Patch (ECO) Kit Checksum Mechanism?

The Question is:

 
We would like to know how to use values in .CHKSUM files from the VMS Software
 patches. For example: We downloaded from your ftp site file
 "dec-axpvms-vms721_driver-v0200--4.pcsi-dcx_axpexe" and we want to be sure
 that the file is transfered correctly by
using value in file "dec-axpvms-vms721_driver-v0200--4.CHKSUM". We tried with
 MD5 checksum instructions from site
 http://www.support.compaq.com/svctools/decevent/md5-instructions.html, but it
 didn't work. Is there any other tool to check downloaded VMS SW
 patches?
