Failing $qiow call? (timeout)

I have problem using system service qiow ,
the return value is timeout , but I do not specify any timeout parameter,what's
 the possible root?How can I get the timeout setting  of qiow ?

  Without an example of the failing $qiow call and without details
  of the particular device involved, an answer is difficult at best.
