The Question is:
We have 1 Alpha running openVMS v7.2-1 and 2 older VAX systems.
From any PC running windows 95/98/NT and even macintosh systems, when I ftp to
the 2 VAX systems I get the username prompt immediatly. When I try to ftp to
the Alpha box I have to wait almost a minute before I get the username prompt.
I also tried using
just the ip address instead of the hostname and still the same thing occurs
(ex: ftp 10.1.0.17 vs ftp alpha.mydomain.com). I think it may have something
to do with reverse DNS.
My question is can I disable the ftp server running on the Alpha from
performing and reverse dns lookup for the client trying to connect. I do not
wish to create a hosts entry in our internal DNS server for every client
wishing to ftp to the Alpha?
The Answer is :
Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center, as it would
appear there is a problem with the IP stack or with the local
network configuration.
Expect to be asked details of the IP stack in use, including the
version and ECO level. (V5.0A ECO 1 or later prefered.) Also
expect to be asked details of the local network configuration.
