EDT and truncated (long) lines?

The Question is:

 
How do we set the EDT right margin beyond 255? We've tried various commands
 (set notrun / set wrap x), but have been unsucessful in setting the right
 margin beyond 255.
 
When we run EDT in batch on file with that has lines longer that 255, we get
 the message "Line exceeded 255 characters, truncated".

The Answer is :

 
  EDT is old and crufty, and there are things it just cannot do.
  Options include LSE, TPU, and various other text editors.
 
  Alternatively, use a tool, program, or a language such as Perl,
  or use files with lines of a length accessable to EDT.
