The Question is:
How do you setup a LAT queue to talk to a HPLaserjet printer via a JetDirect
network connection?
The Answer is :
If the HP JetDirect controller (or the particular printer NIC in use)
supports the LAT protocol, please see the information in LAT$STARTUP
and LAT$SYSTARTUP, and see the OpenVMS system management documentation
on setting up a print queue.
Printing via LAT to external terminal server (DECserver) or other
dedicated external network interface (RapidPrint or otherwise) is an
option, assuming you can locate the necessary network hardware -- this
approach uses the serial or parallel port on the particular printer.
If the JetDirect supports IP, please see the discussions in topic 1020
and elsewhere, as well as the TCP/IP Services printing documentation.
For a comparision of LAT and telnet, please see other discussions
here in ATW.
