Third-party SCSI Storage? (Seagate)

The Question is:

 
I've been trying to INIT a Seagate ST39216N 9.2G
SCSI (narrow 50-pin) drive in our AlphaStation 255/233Mhz workstation.  The SRM
 sho dev correctly identifies the drive, but when in VMS I get an
 INIT-F-DEVOFFLINE error which appears to indicate the device cannot be
 identified.  Do I need a driver or firm
ware update to use this drive?

The Answer is :

 
  Please see topic 4467 as a start.
 
  The OpenVMS Wizard will assume that you have the current OpenVMS ECO
  kits for OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 -- those ECO kits that are mandatory and
  those that are specific to SCSI operations -- applied to this system.
