Fast deletion of large directory?

The Question is:

 
Hello,
 
I have a directory containing about 40.000 files, is their a FAST way
to delete this directory, including its contents ? purge isn't an option,
they're all different.
(for the moment I probably need a whole day, or even more)

The Answer is :

 
  DFU on the Freeware can do this.
 
  A reverse deletion -- from the last entry in the directory to the
  first -- can also be used.
 
  And an upgrade to OpenVMS V7.2 will provide access to the larger
  directory caches and to the faster directory I/O processing.
