The Question is:
What alpha hardware can you use to run OpenVMS, Me and a friend of mine, are
planning of buying an old Alpha to run OpenVMS 7,2 on. Is there any special
think to think about.
/Fredrik
The Answer is :
Please see the OpenVMS Software Product Description (SPD) for the list
of the supported system hardware. Stray outside this list at your
peril -- you may or may not get an unsupported platform to work.
(Please see previous discussions of attempting to use OpenVMS on
the -a series Personal Workstation, as well as on the LX series
motherboard -- these systems are NOT supported by OpenVMS.)
The OpenVMS Wizard would tend to recommend a member of the AlphaStation
series, such as the AlphaStation 200, AlphaStation 255, or other similar
system. These have a failsafe loader, a PCI bus, reasonable expansion
capabilities, and system performance that will likely be acceptable.
Please see the OpenVMS FAQ for information on the hobbyist license, as
well as for pointers to the OpenVMS SPD, as well as some details on
OpenVMS on various unsupported systems.
