Scripting via Telnet? (SET HOST)

The Question is:

 
Hi,
 
I hope this isn't a stupid question.
 
I would like to be able to automatically connect and then manage a Decserver
 700 via Telnet within a Command file but am unable to parse login details to
 the server on connection.
 
I assume this is something to do with a change of terminal environment or some
 such.
 
Is this possible to achieve via DCL scripting or does it require another
 approach ?
