Scripting commands via telnet? (take II)

The Question is:

 
Dear Wizard,
 
I'm running OpenVMS version 7.1 on an Alpha 2100 and am engaged in the
 following scenario:
 
I am able to telnet into a telephone switching device ( a DMS250), from the
 Alpha, where I am able to interactively enter commands to set up the
 environment and execute some other commands.
 
I have been asked to write a script that will:
  1.  Telnet into the switch (whereupon the switch will prompt the user for
 username and password).
  2.  Then noninteractively execute the commands to set up the environment and
 some others.
 
 
Is there some way to write a script that will allow me to telnet into the
 switch, enter username and password, and then noninteractively execute
 commands on it?
