Running a program with arguments?

The Question is:

 
I downloaded the file compression utilities gzip.exe, compress.exe,
 compress_alpha.exe, zip.exe from your website but they don't seem to work.
 
$ r gzip
gzip: compressed data not written to a terminal. Use -f to force compression.
For help, type: gzip -h
$ r gzip -h
%DCL-W-MAXPARM, too many parameters - reenter command with fewer parameters
 
Do you have any ideas why this happens?
 
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
