The Question is:
Where can I find a comprehensive "all in one" list of all VMS system
parameters. This list should include complete "detailed" discriptions and
definitions of all VMS system parameters in all categories. I have accessed
the list found in the "OpenVMS Sys
tem Management Utilities Reference Manual", but it does not go in detail on
each parameter.
The Answer is :
As far as the OpenVMS Wizard knows, no such list exists as part of
the Compaq OpenVMS documentation -- beyond the referenced manual
the on-line HELP, and the internals and data structures manuals.
In many cases, system parameters are expressly not documented.
The general rule of thumb for system parameters: stay clear of the
OpenVMS system parameters -- unless you are specifically told by a
vendor that a particular set of parameters requires particular
modification, you should use only AUTOGEN to modify or tune the
settings. When changing settings, use only documented tools such
as MODPARAMS.DAT and AUTOGEN to make the parameter modifications.
