Configuring DECnet circuits?

» close window

The Question is:

I read your post number 4244 (Network - Hardware and Physical - Address) and
was wondering if our situation would be ok.
We are looking at putting an additional ethernet card on our AlphaServer GS but
only using one of the two cards for DECnet.
We would take out the circuit in DECnet, but configure both cards with
different IP address in Multinet. Would this be allowed or because of the way
Decnet works we could only have one ethernet card on the system.

The Answer is :

Please contact Multinet for information, restrictions, requirements
  and questions regarding Multinet.

The OpenVMS network drivers permit clients -- such as DECnet and IP
  -- to coexist.

IP addresses are quite different than Ethernet hardware physical
addresses, and IP and DECnet-Plus (unlike DECnet Phase IV) do not
need to alter the controller physical address.

DECnet (Phase IV or -Plus) can quite easily be configured to use only
one controller, or to prefer one controller over another (though to
also failover to the other "higher-cost" controller as needed).
