The Question is:
As part of my companies new security policy, we have been asked to routinely
run a program to scan the UAF and attempt to crack easy to guess passwords.
Are their any PW crack utilities like there are for Windows NT?
The Answer is :
For what should be obvious reasons, the OpenVMS Wizard is not in a
position to provide pointers to tools designed to search for or to
attempt to (re)generate passwords -- please contact the Compaq Customer
Support Center for information and assistance and available options
and layered products for maintaining appropriate system security.
(While you might be of honest intentions, not all folks that ask this
and related questions are.)
Additionally, if passwords are a concern, you should consider using
generated passwords, and configuring the existing OpenVMS password
history and password dictionary mechanisms for your environment.
Also please see the available OpenVMS Security documentation, and
particularly consider improving the education and skills of your
users around topics of maintaining and ensuring system security.
