The Question is:
I am using the TCPIP> facility (OpenVMS 7.1/Alpha) and trying to set the port
for telnet to something other than 23 (for security purposes). The command
ENABLE SERVICE TELNET /PORT=nn only works for port 23, so there must be a
config file somewhere to ent
er a list of permissible ports. Any suggestions?
The Answer is :
For security, the OpenVMS Wizard finds it preferable to set up OpenVMS
host security, break-in evasion, passwords, and auditing and alarms
correctly, rather than attempting to maintain security through obscurity.
Appropriate IP firewall(s) -- for monitoring and controlling both inbound
and outbound IP traffic -- are also of obvious interest here.
Various TCP/IP tools and utilities are built to assume the use of the
particular (assigned) IP ports. Some of topics 1316, 2628, 3903 and
3778 might also be of interest here.
