Disabling a network device?

The Question is:

I have an Alpha 4100, that has both an ethernet port and a FDDI port. I would
like vms to use the FDDI port instead of the ethernet port. What would be
the steps in order to configure the system to use the FDDI port?

The Answer is :

Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center. Expect to be
asked for the particular use of the port you wish to disable (eg:
DECnet Phase IV, DECnet-Plus, SCS, IP, etc), and the particular
  versions of products involved.

  Also see topic 4401.

For information on configuring and enabling and disabling ports
in DECnet, see NCP or NCL command. The OpenVMS Wizard will assume
DECnet Phase IV, and thus NCP. As such, use the NCP commands SET
LINE and SET CIRCUIT and DEFINE LINE and DEFINE CIRCUIT commands
for the particular target circuit, and select the option STATE OFF.
