TCP/IP SMTP server delay?

The Question is:

 
           SMTP wait 5 min before starting dialog
     We have mVAX 3100 VAX/VMS V7.2 CPU KA51 Microcode Rev #2 CONSOLE FW
 REV#2.6 Patch Rev #1 with DEC VAXVMS TCPIP V5.0-9. Servers enabled:
 PORTMAPPER,      TELNET/RLOGIN,  METRIC, POP,  FINGER. Clients enabled:
 REXEC/RSH, RLOGIN,  SMTP,  TELNET. Patche
s installed: VAXACRT01_072, VAXF11X01_072, VAXUPDATE01_072
   When I execute the command:
$ telnet <nodename> 25
the system wait about 5 min before answering:
220 <nodename> ...
  Same operatin in VAX/VMS V7.1 & UCX 4.1-24A take few seconds.
  What happend in V5.0?

The Answer is :

 
  Please first move to V5.0A.
 
  Please also check for a bad route to the default gateway, as TCP/IP
  Services uses the default gateway to reach the nameserver, and -- if
  no nameserver can be found -- TCP/IP tries to use the default value
  from SYS$MANAGER:TCPIP$RESOLV_CONF.DAT.
 
  If the problem persists on V5.0A and a valid nameserver and gateway
  are available, please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center.
