The Question is:
I'm having trouble reading a tar volume that's on a tape from
SGI Irix 6.5. The tar volume was created with
the tar utility on an Alphaserver system running OpenVMS 7.1.
The Irix tar command does not seem to recognize ant data on the
tape. Is there a format problem here when going from VMS tarred
files to Unix type tarred file? What can I do to be able to read
the data off of the tape on my unix type host?

The Answer is :
No clue -- the OpenVMS Wizard has used various OpenVMS tar tools to
read and write and interchange tar tapes. Check the particular device
involved, and ensure that compatible block sizes and compression
schemes are in use.
