FTP and invalid SITE command?

The Question is:

 
We are trying to ftp from our Alpha to CONNECT:Mailbox, a Sterling product running on an OS/2 server.   Our 'put' command is rejected because the OS/2 server detects "invalid SITE command".   How do we keep the Alpha from sending the site command?  We hav
e tried disabling it before we  ftp, but that has no effect.
 

The Answer is :

 
  Please contact the IP vendor for the OS/2 system, as it is rather
  surprising to see this error returned from an FTP server.
