Configuring Printer via TCP/IP?

» close window

The Question is:

I have a SCO server connected to several HP JetDirect Print servers. I need
to configure our VMS server to print to these printers remotely but am
unsure of how the printer name should be defined (using lpr
I repeatedly get 'connection to host lost' messages, what does this actually

The Answer is :

Please see the TCP/IP Services manual or on-line documentation for
assistance in setting up the lpr/lpd client in OpenVMS -- if you are
using an HP JetDirect card, the SCO system is not involved in this
(unless you want to configure it as an intermediate system).
You will need follow the steps in the documentation for configuring
the printer. (You will see various differences, as the documentation
is rather newer than the version of TCP/IP Services you are likely
  using here.)
Current TCP/IP Services documentation (V5.0A) is available at:
Your OpenVMS version is rather old, as is likely your TCP/IP Services
software version -- on OpenVMS VAX V6.1, you will want to use TCP/IP
Services V4.2 with the current ECO. (And you will want to consider
an OpenVMS upgrade to a later release -- such as V7.2 -- and an upgrade
to TCP/IP Services V5.0A or later.)
There have also been a variety of discussions around configuring
printers using the TCP/IP Services package here in Ask The Wizard.
