System status and thermal data? (eSNMP MIB)

» close window

The Question is:

Is it possible to show(display) the system temperature at the DCL level?

The Answer is :

The usual approach is via ServerWorks or other tool using the Extensible
Simple Network Management (eSNMP) protocol, and the thermal information
available in the eSNMP Management Information Base (MIB) Subagent.

Direct access to the I2C bus -- a bus which permits access to various
Alpha system components such as thermal and environmental sensors -- is
not available to OpenVMS applications nor to DCL. (The I2C bus is also
the path used to control the operator display panel on various systems.)

Support for the I2C bus first appeared in OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-1H1.

Information on the available eSNMP MIB Subagents is included in the
OpenVMS documentation, starting in OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-1H1.

Depending on the Alpha system, you may also be able to acquire this
  information from the console.
