The Question is:
We are having alpha system DEC 3000-700 ,our problem is that several time
the decwindows working alright but at other times system doesnot allow to
open more than one window.this problem is coming on console.earlier we were
running digital-unix on this sy
stem but it never gave a problem like that.we are forced to change the o.s.
environment because our application software on DU WAS NOT Y2K COMPLIANT.and
is so on openvms.hence please tell us the remedy for that.

The Answer is :
You will want to apply any ECO available for the particular version of
DECwindows installed, and you will want to review the process quotas
and system parameters (in the DECwindows documentation) required for the
use of DECwindows, and you will want to ensure that you have sufficient
physical memory and system resources available.
After installing available ECO kits and then adjusting the process quotas
via AUTHORIZE and the system parameters via MODPARAMS.DAT and AUTOGEN
(usually from SAVPARAMS to REBOOT with the FEEDBACK option) per the
DECwindows documentation, you will want to reboot the system. Again, you
will also want to ensure that sufficient physical memory is available.
If these do not resolve the problem, then please contact the Compaq
Customer Support Center directly for assistance -- additional details on
the configuration, on the error message(s) reported (if any), on the ECO
level, etc., will likely be required.
