Ask the Wizard Questions

DECwindows: eXcursion & VAXstation 3100

The Question is:

We have recently purchased 7 Nos. of DEC2100 alpha servers
(OVMS 6.2) for our GIS project and 65 PC CAD workstations
( NT 3.51 O/S ) with Excursion software V2.1 to be used as
X-Terminal stations.
There is also 26 VAX3100 workstations connected to the
same network.
Can you help us in solving the following two problems :

1- Is there any software for the Alpha Open VMS which can
converting the existing VAX3100 workstations to X-terminal
and boot directly from the DEC2100 Alpha Servers ?
2- Is there any method to make Excursion software to use
the same user name and password used to log in to the
NT workstation and use it to log in to the Alpha
   server ?

Best Regards,

The Answer is:

>1- Is there any software for the Alpha Open VMS which can
> converting the existing VAX3100 workstations to X-terminal
> and boot directly from the DEC2100 Alpha Servers ?

Depending on what graphics hardware they have, you could purchase EWS
    and turn them into VT1300.

>2- Is there any method to make Excursion software to use
> the same user name and password used to log in to the
> NT workstation and use it to log in to the Alpha
> server ?

    Not at this time.
