Ask the Wizard Questions

Tape: Bad tape

The Question is:

I have 4mm DAT tape that had developped a bad spot on the
media. I need to recover the last saveset (from several)
from this tape. I cannot, however, get past the 2nd last
saveset where the bad spot is.

I get the message
%BACKUP-E-READERRS, excessive error rate reading MKB500:[000000]11JAN1996.;
-SYSTEM-F_PARITY, parity error

Is there anyway to increase the error limit to try and
get past the bad spot ?

I am using a TLZ06 and Digital DAT tapes.

Thanks

The Answer is:

  Try cleaning the tape head first -- this _may_ help.

  See if COPY will pull the savesets in, or if you can use the SET MAGTAPE
  command to skip over the bad spot.

  If not, you likely need to contact a media data reclaimation service.
