Ask the Wizard Questions

System: Explain VMS, VAX, and Alpha

The Question is:

I have just currently started working with a company that
uses this system. However, I am not familiar with how
these systems work. Plus, now they say they willb
be switching to Alpha. Could you in simple terms explain
what this is all about.

Thanks

The Answer is:

The Wizard is not omniscent. There is no single, succinct, nor
simple answer to this (highly ambiguous) question.

You will want to acquire access to the information and documentation
    (that should be) available locally.

Digital makes extensive documentation available with the OpenVMS and
UNIX operating systems in hardcopy and on CD-ROM. Various Alpha
systems also run Microsoft NT, and Microsoft makes NT-related information
    available.
