Ask the Wizard Questions

CLuster for realtime

The Question is:

Where can I find information about design considerations for a VAX
Cluster using DSSI disk sharing? I am designing a real-time system
which is operational 24x7 and need to know information like, what
happens if a cluster member crashes (loses power, etc. ), how will
other members be affected, how fast is the cluster reconfigured? My plan
is to cluster 2 VAX 4x00 and 2 DSSI storage devices as well as several
(up to 30) workstations. The workstations are being clustered for
convenience only. The 2 VAX 4x00

The Answer is:

Clustering is not recommanded for realtime systems. You need to
consult the "DSSI Vaxcluster Installation and Troubleshooting Guide"
order number EK-410AA-MG. It is an older manual, that does not include
newer DSSI adapters. You can also consult "VMScluster Systems
    for OpenVMS" AA-PV5WB-TK.
