Ask the Wizard Questions

Backup and file security

The Question is:

I am using BACKUP and FTP to copy entire directory trees
from one Alpha/VMS6.1 to another Alpha/VMS6.1 system. I
am trying to get security profiles with the files. It
appears to be working. Is this a reasonable method? Only
1 of the Alphas has a DAT tape drive.

The Answer is:

The BACKUP utility can output a saveset to a remote node on the network. There
it can be restored.

The BACKUP utility will preserve file ownership, UIC-based protection and the
ACL depending on the qualifiers used.
