Ask the Wizard Questions

UCX proxy for r-commands

The Question is:

I would like to know the equivalent in VMS of the
 HOME/.rhosts
file that can be created in the home directory
of a UNIX user. The goal is to be able to execute
rsh commands from UNIX to the VMS-box.

TIA.

The Answer is:

  Various r-commands are available under Digital TCP/IP Services (UCX),
  and the contents of /$HOME/.rhosts are analogous to what OpenVMS calls
  `proxies'.

  Under UCX, the OpenVMS proxies used for rcp, rlogin and rsh are accessed
  via the UCX management utility:

	$ RUN SYS$SYSTEM:UCX
	UCX> ADD PROXY user/HOST=host/REMOTE_USER=user

  Additional information on this topic is available in the "R" commands
  section of the )Digital TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Management_ manual.
