Ask the Wizard Questions

How to control tape loader

The Question is:

I have a new TurboLaser 8200 AXP running VMS6.2 with a pair of HSZ40
controllers and a TZ877 tape loader sub-system. My question is: how do
I control the tape loader to select tapes for performing backups since
the HSZ40 documentation states they don't support tape devices (SCSI
or otherwise). On my old VAX6610 I used the
"set host/dup/server=mscp$dup/task=hcart0 tf867". Can I control this new
tape loader without buying SLS or another layered product?

The Answer is:

You don't control the tape loader from DCL or VMS BACKUP. You can
write code, or use applications like MRU.
