Ask the Wizard Questions

Mail notification in cluster

The Question is:

In a VMS cluster, is it possible to set up the mail
notification system so that a user is notified that they
have new mail no matter which node they are on? From
what I've been able to determine, the mail$server entity
exists only in the mind of DECNET, and DECNET is node-
specific in our clusters. If the nodes share their DECNET
object file, would this resolve the problem?

The Answer is:

This is accomplished by defining the system logical name MAIL$SYSTEM_FLAGS to
have a value of 7.

	$define/system/exec mail$system_flags 7

For more information on this, please see the MAIL Utility manual.
