OpenVMS Linker on Alpha and based images

The Question is:

I have a VAX based shared libary and I use this lib to
share pointers among the process. The Linker of AXP OpenVMS
doesn't have the BASE option, How can I use shared pointers
among process without using offsets ?

The Answer is:

   I would strongly recommend against using a based shareable image.
   If you wish to share data in this fashion, I would recommend the
   use of a private or global section -- the contents of the section
   are left up to the programmer, and the programmer can choose to
   store data in a position-dependent or position-independent fashion.
   I would recommend the latter, unless the data is entirely process-
   private and is not shared among multiple processes.
