Ask the Wizard Questions

How to get TCP/IP on VAXstation 3100

The Question is:

I have a MicroVax 3100 that is connected to my other systems through
Decnet but is not a part of the cluster. I am intrested in
setting up an internet access site and would like to know if
the 3100 could be used for that purpose. I am runing VAX 6.1
on the system and am not intrested in Unix.

The Answer is:

Yes, it can be used. You will need an Internet provider, and you will
likely need an IP package for the OpenVMS system -- DEC TCP/IP Services
(UCX) is one such package -- and you will need a provider-specified
point-to-point data link running a provider-specified protocol, and you
will need a package on the OpenVMS system that supports the provider-
specified protocol if UCX does not support the protocol and data link.
