As VMS enters its fourth decade, Keith Parent (CEO of Court Square Group and former DEC employee) looks at the evolution of the technology and why it is still a system relied upon by industries all
over the world. The years have not been without challenges and critics but the importance and stability of VMS is undeniable. In fact, many technology ideas implemented at the inception of VMS have
recently been adopted by newer technologies. A long time proponent of VMS, Mr. Parent noted in an article written for MassHighTech in 2006, "We often talk about the short product life cycle
inherent in new technology. We would not be the least surprised if Digital's systems outlive the very people who created them." Mr. Parent will also address his experiences with VMS including the
unique challenges of using a legacy system in regulated industries.
